If you run a business, crew, school, or team in Tacoma, you need apparel that holds up and looks right. Northwest Custom Apparel got its start in Tacoma back in 1977, and we still produce every order in-house at our Milton facility, 15 minutes away. Embroidery, screen printing, DTG, and DTF, all under one roof, all with a proof in your hands before we run a single piece.
Tacoma is a working city, and your apparel needs to match that. Whether you’re outfitting a job site, a front office, or a whole roster of players, the right decoration method depends on what the garment has to survive.
We build every Tacoma order around three things: the industry you’re in, how the apparel gets used, and how fast you need it. Here’s how that breaks down.
Work shirts, safety shirts, jackets, hoodies, and caps need decoration that survives weekly washing and daily wear. Embroidery holds up best here because the thread becomes part of the fabric instead of sitting on top of it. This is our biggest specialty, and it shows in how we build the rest of this page.
Polos, jackets, and embroidered shirts give your Tacoma team a consistent look for client meetings and daily work. Office managers and HR coordinators lean on us for uniform programs that stay easy to reorder.
Sports uniforms, spirit wear, event shirts, and fundraiser apparel need bulk sizing and fast turnaround before a season or event date. We handle youth sizing through adult XXL in one order. For a deeper look at team and school programs, see our school and team sports apparel page.
Picking a decoration method shouldn’t be a guessing game. Here’s the short version amongst our custom apparel services.
Custom embroidery uses thread stitched directly into the fabric. It lasts years, survives repeated washing, and gives your logo a raised, professional texture. Minimum order is 6 pieces for garments and 24 caps per style and color.
Screen printing is the most cost-effective option at volume, and it’s the only method certified for Hi-Vis safety shirts under ANSI/ISEA 107-2015. Minimum order is 24 pieces.
DTG and DTF printing handle full-color, photo-realistic designs without setup fees eating into small orders. Minimum order is 12 pieces for either method.
Beyond apparel, we offer laser engraving on wood, glass, metal, and leatherette, plus promotional products like mugs, tumblers, and stickers. These work well as add-ons to a Tacoma apparel order, not as a separate purchase.
Our in-house artists, including specialists like Steve, convert your ideas into print-ready files and professional embroidery formats with custom artwork.
Which custom apparel method fits your Tacoma order?
| What You Need | Best Option | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Corporate polos | Embroidery | Professional look, durable |
| Construction jackets | Embroidery | Logo survives daily wear and washing |
| Bulk event shirts | Screen printing | Most cost-effective at volume |
| Hi-Vis safety shirts | Screen printing | ANSI-certified application |
| Detailed full-color designs | DTG / DTF | Handles complex artwork |
| Branded caps | Embroidery | Works with structured headwear |
| Corporate gifts | Laser engraving | Extends your brand past apparel |
Under the minimum for your method? A $50 under-minimum charge applies instead of turning your order away.
Construction is our primary industry, and Tacoma has a lot of it. Here’s what actually matters when you’re outfitting a crew.
Your crew’s gear gets washed weekly and worn hard. Embroidery holds its shape and color through that cycle better than any printed logo does.
We decorate Carhartt jackets and other heavy-duty garments your crew already trusts. We don’t push a brand on you. We match decoration to whatever workwear line you’re already running.
A consistent, embroidered look across your team signals professionalism to clients without looking stiff.
95% of our customers reorder. We keep your logo digitized and on file, so year two is faster than year one.
Mugs, tumblers, and branded gifts round out a Tacoma corporate apparel order for client appreciation or new-hire kits.
We handle youth through adult sizing in one order, which matters when a roster spans multiple age groups.
Fundraising budgets are tight. We’ll help you hit a price point without cutting corners on durability.
Golf tournaments, charity runs, and community events need apparel that shows up on time, every time. Our promotional products line covers giveaways beyond shirts.
A lot of "local" Tacoma apparel companies are actually a website in front of a national print network. We're not. Every piece runs through our Milton facility, 15 minutes from downtown Tacoma.
Before we run your full order, you'll see a proof of your artwork and, for embroidery, a digitized stitch file ready for approval. Nothing goes into production until you sign off on it.
A person answers the phone. Not a call tree. If your deadline moves, you talk to someone who can actually change the production schedule.
We started in Tacoma in 1977 before moving production to Milton in 1981. That history is part of why Tacoma customers keep coming back.

Exceptional prices and great customer service. My work had us come in here to try on some jackets and hats. Noticed they make embroided patches too! Very nice quality productsPosted on Google![]()

We have used Northwest Customs for 2-3 years now at Special Services Landscaping for hats, hoodies and uniforms. We have used the embroidery and the heat press and both have lasted and are stuff we still use today. Great company couldn’t recommend more.Posted on Google![]()

Unacceptable service and zero accountability. From one small business to another. We are incredibly disappointed with our experience here. I placed a large order worth over $1,200.00 for custom gear. This company already had our official logo and color specifications on hand, so there was absolutely no reason for this mistake. Despite having the correct assets, they completely messed up the final product. When they dropped us the product our Rep even stated... Oh this is wrong, don't worry you don't have to pay for the stitching. We asked what about our damaged gear? She said there is nothing they can do. So when we reached out to resolve the issue, management refused to take responsibility and flatly stated there was "nothing they could do." It is completely wrong that they ruined our gear and our hard-earned money for a botched order and then offer zero solutions. Save your money and take your business elsewhere. They obviously do not stand behind their work and have zero regard for customer service.Posted on Google![]()

We use NW custom for our program, their embroidery done in-house is very well done, identical to the proof of concept. The response time is great when making adjustments to the e-store or when working through third parties for patches. I’d recommend them for any size program!Posted on Google![]()

We don’t publish a flat price list because cost depends on real factors, not guesswork.
Minimum orders by method:
| Method | Minimum Order |
|---|---|
| Embroidery (garments) | 6 pieces |
| Embroidery (caps) | 24 per style/color |
| Screen printing | 24 pieces |
| DTG printing | 12 pieces |
| DTF printing | 12 pieces |
Orders below these minimums carry a $50 under-minimum charge instead of getting turned away. Full detail lives on our custom apparel pricing page.
Every order follows the same steps. We don’t skip them – even when you’re in a hurry. Skipping steps produces errors, and errors cost more time than the step itself.

It depends on the method. Embroidery garments require 6 pieces, embroidery caps require 24, and screen printing, DTG, and DTF each require 12 to 24 pieces depending on method. Orders under the minimum carry a $50 fee.
Embroidery lasts longer on garments that get washed often, like work shirts and jackets, because the thread is stitched into the fabric. Screen printing works better for bulk orders and is required for ANSI-certified Hi-Vis apparel.
